What’s Actually Happening with Windows 10?
- Microsoft ends support on October 14th, 2025
- No more security updates or bug fixes
- Office 2016 & 2019 also lose support at the same time
- Microsoft 365 apps will still work, but OneDrive likely won’t
Your computer won’t explode, but without security patches, you’ll be wide open to malware and cyberattacks – and that’s not just scaremongering. Even antivirus software can’t fully protect an outdated system.
Common Myths About Switching to Mac
Let’s tackle the usual objections head-on – “Macs are too expensive”. Yes, a fully loaded MacBook Pro will cost you. But you don’t need that.
- Mac Mini (M4) starts at $999 AUD. You will also need a screen, mouse and keyboard, but your old gear will work too.
- MacBook Air (M4) starts at $1,699 AUD. You can also get older M1, M2 and M3 models for less.
- We also sell refurbished Macs if you’re on a tighter budget
These machines are fast, reliable, and will last you longer than most Windows laptops – no bloatware, fewer updates, fewer headaches.
Setting up a new Mac is quite simple too, especially if you already have other Apple devices. Apple guides you through setup, step by step. If you have an iPhone, it even pulls in your passwords, Wi-Fi settings, and other bits automatically. Most people are up and running in under an hour. Transferring data can be hit and miss, but Migration Assistant usually works without major issue.
MacOS feels different. But not that different. Give it two weeks and you’ll be flying. Plus, macOS is way more stable – fewer weird errors, fewer driver issues, and less time wasted trying to “fix” things.
- “Alt + Tab” becomes “Command + Tab”
- Closing windows is on the left, not the right
- Ctrl becomes Cmd
Office 365 works perfectly on Mac. Word, Excel, Outlook – all there. You can even install Office 365 with your existing subscription.
Switching to a Mac is usually a one-way road. After you get used to it, you will likely not want to switch back to Windows. If you have an iPhone, you’ll enjoy stuff like iMessage, AirDrop, and iCloud syncing. However, you can still use Chrome, Gmail, Dropbox, Android phones, and whatever else you like.
Why Macs Just Work Better (For Most People)
- Better build quality – solid, premium hardware that lasts – but repairs are also more expensive!
- Fewer viruses and malware
- Way better battery life
- Mostly silent, cool, and fast
- No need for drivers, antivirus, or third-party update tools
- Free software updates for 7+ years
Ready to Make the Switch?
Wondering what to get? Unless you have specific needs like video editing, coding, or a job that involves a lot of apps, a base model Mac Mini or MacBook will be just fine. They only come with 256GB of storage, which may or may not be enough for people with a large collection of pictures, music and software.
Apple’s Migration Assistant moves your files, photos, and settings from Windows. You can also use a USB drive or cloud backup. Need help? We can do it for you. Most apps have Mac versions or solid alternatives. We can help you find replacements if needed. For that one Windows-only app, you can run it with Parallels or similar tools.
And if you’d rather not figure it all out yourself, we’re here to help.
