Better Wi-Fi

If your Internet feels slow or keeps dropping out, the issue may be a weak signal from your wireless router. At Fix My Laptop Brisbane, we can replace your router with a mesh Wi-Fi system to give you stronger coverage throughout your home or office. We also upgrade the Wi-Fi module in your laptop so it supports the latest and fastest standards, making your connection more reliable and much quicker.
We Rely on Wi-Fi for Everything!
Wi-Fi has changed how we live, work, and play. You can stream on the couch, browse by the pool, or use smart lights with voice control. It is no surprise Wi-Fi became essential, but is your connection as strong as it should be?
A few years ago, most households only had a laptop, a tablet, and a couple of phones. Wi-Fi demand was low because streaming high-definition content and online gaming were not as common.
Today, the average home often runs more than five devices at once. Laptops, smartphones, and Smart TVs are all competing for bandwidth. In many families, each person has their own phone and may also use a tablet.
Smart home appliances add to the load as well. Thermostats, security cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, light bulbs, and even robot vacuums all rely on Wi-Fi to stay connected.
Your Regular Router Is Not Enough!
Many Internet providers still supply routers that were fine several years ago, but they can no longer keep up with today’s demands. Modern households and offices rely on faster, more stable connections, so upgrading your router is often the best way to improve performance.
When you sign up for a broadband package, the router you receive is usually only suitable for a small apartment or a home with fewer than five devices. Many of these routers still use older technology such as 802.11n, which limits Wi-Fi speeds to levels that were acceptable back in 2012.
Basic routers often have just one or two internal antennas, so coverage quickly drops off in bedrooms, upstairs, or through walls. Some providers include better hardware that uses 802.11AC or 802.11AX technology. These models have multiple antennas (MIMO) and usually deliver reliable coverage for homes up to 100–150 square meters.
Cheap and DIY Solutions
If you go to any electronics retail shop, you will see plenty of solutions designed to alleviate WiFi troubles…
One of the simplest ways to improve Wi-Fi signal strength is to move your router to a central spot in the house, such as the living room where most devices are used. Placing the router higher up and away from walls can also make a noticeable difference.
Another common method is using a Wi-Fi Extender. This can push the signal further, but if the router itself is too slow, the extender often reduces the overall speed instead of improving it.
Some households try adding an extra router or access point connected by Ethernet cable. While this can work, it usually creates two separate networks, which makes connecting all your devices less seamless.
Powerline Extenders, also known as Ethernet over Power, send the signal through your home’s electrical wiring. This helps the Wi-Fi travel further and reduces wall interference, but it only works well if the wiring is modern.Wi-Fi to stay connected.
Wi-Fi Features You Will Love!
Best Wi-Fi routers come with several features that will appeal to families.
Great design, compact size, and simple operation. You can control everything through an easy-to-use app on your phone or tablet.
Parental controls. Pause Wi-Fi on any device whenever you need uninterrupted family time. You can also create a schedule to block access on certain devices at set hours, which is perfect for managing screen time.
Guest Wi-Fi. Instead of sharing your main network, provide visitors with temporary Wi-Fi access. The app lets you set a time limit so access automatically ends without the need to share your password.
Troubleshooting and performance tests. With one tap, you can check how your Wi-Fi network is performing. If there is a problem, the app will highlight the issue and in many cases guide you to fix it immediately.

Typical Wi-Fi scenarios
Standalone Router. Enough for houses under 100-150 sq m
Central router with two mesh points. Suitable for large homes up to 300 sq meters. Can be used to cover separate floors
Mesh multi-hop. Very similar to central router setup, but can be used if your Fibre connection is located in the basement or garage
Best WiFi Solution for Small Homes
If your Wi-Fi coverage isn’t sufficient, we can help!
If your home is under 75 square meters, a single router is usually enough since it can cover distances of around 10 to 15 meters. This works well in smaller units where there are fewer walls and obstacles blocking the signal. In larger spaces, you may start to notice slower speeds or weak spots in certain rooms. For homes up to 100 square meters, adding an extra mesh point can make a big difference. The mesh point connects to the main router through Wi-Fi or, for the best results, by using a cable connection. This setup spreads the signal more evenly and gives you stronger, more reliable coverage throughout your home.
Best WiFi Solution for Medium Size Homes
If you live in a typical Australia house, you’ll probably need something more robust.
For every extra 100 square meters of coverage, you will need an additional mesh point. These can be placed anywhere within 20 to 30 meters of the main router, making them perfect for extending Wi-Fi to your basement, attic, or bedrooms.
The mesh points connect to the main router on a separate frequency and adjust themselves for optimal performance. They plug into any standard outlet, and you can move them around your home whenever you need to.
You can install as many mesh points as required, but you will still only see two Wi-Fi networks. One is for older 2.4 GHz devices and the other supports newer 5 GHz devices. Instead of remembering which access point to connect to, you enjoy seamless roaming as your devices switch automatically between mesh points. This works much like a mobile phone connecting to different towers.
All devices on your Wi-Fi network remain on the same subnet. That means you can print, scan, and share files across your home or office with ease.
Best Wi-Fi Adapters for Your Computer
In addition to having a decent router, your laptop and desktop needs a capable Wi-Fi adapter to receive the signal.
For desktops or gaming PCs, the easiest way to boost Wi-Fi is with an external USB adapter. These devices usually have multiple antennas, but they can also be bulky and inconvenient. When it comes to laptops, there is a better option. We can replace the internal Wi-Fi module, giving you a simple upgrade that costs just $100–$120. With this change, your signal strength improves and your Internet speeds become noticeably faster.
