SSD Upgrade

SSD-Upgrade

Upgrading your computer with a Solid State Drive (SSD) can make it feel brand new again, often faster than when it was new. With an SSD, you enjoy better performance, longer battery life, and increased reliability. It also reduces noise and makes your computer much more enjoyable to use. At Fix My Laptop Brisbane, we provide professional SSD upgrades that give your device a second life.

Blog - Windows loading slowly

Computer Too Slow?

Is your computer taking forever to start and load programs? Waiting for it to boot can feel like enough time to make a cup of coffee. In some cases, you could even finish a few chores before it is ready.

Even brand-new computers can sometimes feel slower than your old one. In 2024, many cheap computers still come with hard drives, embedded MMC storage, or low-quality SSDs.

For older computers, hard drives are almost always the main bottleneck. If you are thinking about replacing your computer because of poor performance, there is good news.

Upgrading to a Solid-State Drive (SSD) can make your computer feel brand new again, often even faster than before. It will work the same way, but everything will start up and load several times quicker.

Hard Drives vs SSD

Solid State Drives are faster, more reliable, and run cooler with no noise. After upgrading, you’ll see instant performance gains and wonder why you waited.

SSDs perform up to 5 to 50 times faster than traditional hard drives. This means quicker boot times, near-instant program launches, and smoother overall responsiveness.

Because they have no moving parts, SSDs run silently and eliminate vibrations. That constant whirring and clicking noise you hear from old hard drives is gone.

They are also more durable. SSDs resist drops, shocks, and vibrations, which are common causes of hard drive failure. This makes them ideal for laptops and anyone who travels frequently.

Another advantage is efficiency. SSDs use less energy, which helps improve battery life and lowers operating temperatures. This is especially important for laptops.

HDD vs SSD - faster performance, no vibratiins or noise, more energy efficient
Benefits of a hard drive - capacity, low cost, traditional choice for cheap computers

Why Would Anyone Buy a Hard Drive Then?

The benefits above might sound like a sales pitch, but they are real. Traditional hard drives are still common, however, for a few reasons.

Hard drives remain the most affordable storage option. When compared to SSDs of the same size, a hard drive can cost less than one third of the price.

They also tend to offer larger capacities. A common size is 1 Terabyte (1TB), while high-end enterprise drives can hold up to 16TB.

Data recovery is usually easier with a failed hard drive. However, this should never be a reason to skip regular backups.

Because of their low cost and high capacity, hard drives are often installed in budget computers. This allows manufacturers to cut expenses and increase profits.

With higher read and write endurance, hard drives are also well suited for CCTV systems, network attached storage, backup solutions, and archival purposes.

SSD - make your computer faster than new

We can upgrade your computer with a SSD!

An SSD upgrade can breathe new life into your computer, giving you faster performance, longer battery life, and improved reliability.

If your system runs slow but has no major issues, we can clone everything to a new SSD so it works exactly the same, only faster.

Solid State Drives come in different form factors, and we will supply the best option for your computer. NVMe drives are the most common choice today, although we also keep older SATA drives in stock.

Our typical turnaround time is one business day, and if you need it sooner, same-day service may be possible. Every SSD upgrade also comes with a free tune-up and speed optimisation valued at $150.

Hard drive failure is imminent. Back up your data immediately and run diagnostics

But What if Your Computer has Issues?

Our goal is to leave you happy with your upgrade. An SSD gives you a fast, reliable computer for years. We recommend it only for systems without major issues. If your computer is over three years old or already faulty, see the options below.

Complete Refresh – If your computer still works, we can give it a complete refresh. Our team will back up your data, upgrade the computer with an SSD, reinstall the operating system, and restore your files along with essential programs. This service usually includes an extra $100 for software installation and account setup.

Fresh Start – Looking for a clean slate? We can upgrade any computer with an SSD and perform a fresh installation of Windows. In this option, we do not transfer your data. It is perfect if you have recently purchased the computer, prefer to move your own files, or plan to sell or give the device away. The cost is the same as a standard SSD upgrade, but we will securely wipe all data.

Data Recovery – If your computer has failed, we can attempt to recover your data. Our technicians handle broken devices, corrupted hard drives, and even systems damaged by viruses. Contact us to arrange a diagnostic and quote. Recovery times vary and may take from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the issue.
