dv9000 Hinge Tear Out News

If you have a dv9000 that is suffering lid and hinge problems you are not alone. This is a very common problem, almost 100% of dv9000's we see in the workshop have hinge tear-out on the left hand side.

You can tell if you have it by seeing in the screen when open rocks back and forth without moving the friction hinge.  If it rocks more than an inch or so, your hinges are tearing out of the lid.

Also be aware that HP have admitted there is a problem with the left hinge and have offered warranty support in USA and Canada. It may help you press your case to HP Australia:

The situation remains the same as far as spare parts is concerned. HP does not sell the lid, bezel, or hinges for dv9000's as seperate parts. The lid assembly (including the 17" screen) is very expensive. You will find that individual parts cannot be ordered. eg the lid:

If the situation changes we'll update this news item.

As at Nov 20th 2009, no positive news. We do occasionally source some replacment used lids but due to supply (nil) and demand (high) costs are high.
